Range Review: Using The New Mustang S650 Rear Suspension On Classic Trucks

Range Review: Using The New Mustang S650 Rear Suspension On Classic Trucks

Can you use the S650 (2024+ Mustang) rear suspension with our swap kits?

Yes, and the good news is 21-year-olds are still buying these cars in record numbers and wrecking them, making the part supply plentiful.  It bolts in exactly the same as the S550. The only difference comes in the knuckles and brakes- the S650 has an electric parking brake on the caliper, and uses the same rotors and calipers as the 2020+ Aviator/Explorer/Police Utility. The vented rotors are approximately ¾” larger than the S550 rotors.

So yes- definitely use the s650 rear suspension on your swap. The electric parking brake is a great benefit (you can get our wiring kit for it HERE)

If you already have the S-550 IRS and are jealous of the electric parking brake- You could swap in the knuckles and brakes from the S-650... OR.... Stay tuned for the Range S-550 electric brake kit to be released soon. Check out the teaser pic below.

Why Swap an S-550/S-650 Rear Suspension into an F100?

Better Handling and Stability: The IRS design gives each rear wheel independent movement, improving grip on uneven surfaces, enhancing cornering, and reducing body roll.

Improved Ride Quality: Say goodbye to the harsh ride of leaf springs. With an S650 rear, your F100 will glide over bumps and feel much more refined on the road.

Modern Performance Upgrades: You get access to modern differential options, better gearing, and aftermarket support, making it easier to tune your truck for street, strip, or even autocross. And these units are ready to handle serious HP.

Electric Parking Brake: The S-650 Mustang subframe now comes stock with electric parking brakes and with our wiring kit, having a functional parking brake has never been easier! The Electric Parking Brake Wiring Kit can be found here: Mustang S-650 Electric Parking Brake Wiring Kit

Lets Address Some of the common questions about S550/S650 rear suspension swaps.

Is the Range Industries Kit a bolt-on kit or does it require welding?

The Range Industries Kit is completely bolt-on and does not require any welding or fabrication. We wanted to make our kit as user friendly as possible which saves our customers time, money, and the headache of sending your vehicle off to a fab shop. Our Kit can be installed in your garage or driveway with a basic mechanics tool set. And it uses existing holes in your frame to place the suspension in the perfect spot. The hardest part of the install is removing the factory brackets and rivets.

Do I need to modify the driveshaft?

Yes — since you’re changing the rear differential, driveshaft length and yoke compatibility will need to be addressed. Get rid of the stock mustang CV flange, and replace it with a U-joint yoke to fit your driveshaft:  Driveshaft yoke for S-550 / S650 Rear End.

Will this work with my stock wheels?

No! We suggest using late model Mustang wheels with our kit. You will need the modern offset to fit inside your fenders and clear the brakes.

Swapping an S-550/S-650 rear suspension into your F100 is no small project, but the rewards are massive. You get modern handling, better performance, and a unique restomod build that stands out from the crowd.

If you’re serious about transforming your F100 into a next-level performer, installing a Range Industries S-550/S-650 Rear mounting kit is the move. Just be sure to plan carefully and budget for the full installation (including driveshaft, brakes, and wheels).
